Police Officer

The City of Prairie Village is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.  Applicants must meet minimum requirements.  Police Officers must live within a 35-mile radius of the department with no Kansas residency requirements.  For questions, contact Sgt. Seasonal Laborer

The City of Prairie Village has an opening for the position of Seasonal Laborer.  Job duties include, but are not limited to:  mowers, chain saws, trimmers, seeders, etc..

Laborer

The City of Prairie Village has an opening for the position of Laborer.  Job duties include, but are not limited to:  Operation of pickup truck, dump truck, wheel front loader, backhoe/loader, mowers, chain saws, trimmers, seeders, pumps, generators, snow blowers, and tampers.

  • Spread salt on and plows snow from streets, parking lots and sidewalks.
  • Assist and perform activities in the construction, repair, maintenance and operation of City infrastructure.
  • Use and maintain various tools, equipment, and vehicles.

School Crossing Guard

The City of Prairie Village is accepting applications for School Crossing Guards for the 2007 - 2008 school year. Morning and afternoon sessions daily:  7:30 am to 8:10 am  and 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm. The position is for the nine-month school year and pay $11.10 per session. Uniforms and training provided.  Paid holidays and school breaks.

Lifeguard

Starting at $8.46 per hour

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, accomplishes specialized work in protecting life by preventing and responding to emergencies, assisting in instructions, and assisting in the operation of a public swimming pool; and performs related work as required.

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Attends and participates in in-service training sessions.
  • Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City department staffs.
  • Enforces Pool Rules and regulations.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid American Red Cross C.P.R. for the Professional Rescue Certificate.
  • Must be 16 years of age to start work as a lifeguard.
  • Must be available and flexible to work various hours during the week, weekend and holidays. 
  • Some related work experience preferred by not required.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
