Building Codes & Permits

The City of Prairie Village has adopted building and construction codes to help protect residents, business owners, and the public at large.

To find out if you need a permit for construction, read our list of common construction projects that require permits. All construction permits must be obtained prior to the start of work.

Prairie Village Zoning Information

Zoning information for properties in Prairie Village is available through Johnson County's Automated Information Mapping System (AIMS.) To access the AIMS system, visit the AIMS website.

Then, use Johnson County's Internet Map Server to:

Some projects may require review by the Planning Commission. These projects often include new construction or significant expansion of commercial buildings, or projects which may require special review processes such as re-zoning, conditional use permits, special use permits, or variances from the City's Zoning and Subdivision Regulations.
