Last summer, the City began the process of developing a comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan to guide future development and enhancement of our City parks and recreational programming for the next 10 - 15 years. After the initial information gathering phase was completed, interviews were held with stakeholder groups and park users, and a statistically valid survey instrument was randomly mailed to 2,100 residents. In addition, the consultant received valuable public input during the Park Workshop held at City Hall on October 27th. After prioritization was complete, a draft plan was presented and thoroughly reviewed by members of the subcommittee and city staff. Once approved by the subcomittee the draft plan was presented to the public in early April. The public voiced overwhelming support for the plan as did the Park and Recreation Committee. On June 1, 2009, the City Council adopted the 2009 Parks & Recreation Master Plan. On Wednesday, January 13, 2009, the Park & Recreation Committee held a public forum to share proposed updates on Franklin Park. Indigo Design is the firm that is working on the 2010 Franklin Park improvements and also was the City's consultant on the recently completed Parks Master Plan. These projects are scheduled to begin construction in May and be completed by late-September. Improvements include the widening of the park trail to 8", the addition of a new park shelter, restroom facilities and a nature-play element that allows children of all ages to interact with their natural surrounding.
