  • School Crossing Guard

The City of Prairie Village is seeking part time School Crossing Guards for the 2010-2011 school year.  There is one morning and one afternoon session daily, usually Monday through Friday:

            7:30 am to 8:10 am
                        and
            3:00 pm to 3:45 pm.

The position is for the nine-month school year and currently pays $12.30 per session, with incentives for attendance and longevity. Uniforms and training provided.  Paid holidays and school breaks. The Prairie Village Police Department is accepting applications for Police Dispatcher. Excellent communication skills via the radio and telephone are required as is the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently. Applicants must have knowledge of Microsolf computer programs and typing skills. This full-time position requires rotating shift work, including weekends and Holidays. Applicants must successfully pass a polygraph, background investigation, psychological and medical exams. Salary range is $2,866 to $4,308/month, DOQ , with excellent benefits

What are the minimum qualifications for serving as a police officer?

Candidates for police officer must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for employment with the Prairie Village Police Department.

  • 21 Years of Age
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Good Moral Character
  • Valid Driver's License
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Has not been convicted; does not have an expunged conviction; has not been placed on diversion by any state or federal government for a crime which is a felony or its equivalent under the Uniform Code of Military Justice
  • No DUI within the last five years
  • No visible tattoos

Is there a residency requirement for police officers?

Successful candidates must be willing to move within a 35-mile radius of the city limits within two years of hire date. There are no Kansas residency requirements.

Successful candidates attend the Johnson County Regional Police Academy.
