Meadowbrook Redevelopment Breaks Ground
May 23, 2016 – With a ceremonial turn of the soil, community partners joined to celebrate the official start of construction for VanTrust Real Estate’s Meadowbrook redevelopment in Prairie Village, Kan. The development is located at the site of the former 136-acre Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club, between 91st and 95th streets and Roe and Nall avenues. Meadowbrook will feature single family and multi-family homes, senior living, and a hotel nestled within an 84-acre county park.
“We have always considered this a very special piece of property and take our stewardship of this community asset very seriously,” said Rich Muller, executive vice president, VanTrust Real Estate. “We are grateful for the trust our partners have placed in us to create a place that the entire community can cherish for generations to come.”
Meadowbrook will feature 53 single family lots, 70 townhome units, approximately 330 senior housing units, approximately 280 luxury multi-family units and a 50-room boutique inn including 5,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
More than 800 individuals and businesses attended community meetings and public hearings, providing input that was considered and integrated by the project partners.
“Meadowbrook Park was made possible with the unique partnership of both public and private entities: VanTrust Real Estate, Johnson County Government, the City of Prairie Village, Johnson County Wastewater, and Johnson County Park & Recreation District,” Prairie Village Mayor Laura Wassmer said. “Thanks to the leadership of these entities, and input from residents, Meadowbrook Park will be a destination for residents in the northeast for generations to come.”
"This project is the result of great collaboration and innovative ideas among a number of private and public partners, and it's efforts like these that help to make Johnson County a great place to live, work and raise a family," said Ed Eilert, chairman of Johnson County Board of County Commissioners.
The 84-acre public park will feature 3 +/- miles of biking/walking trails, playgrounds, a balance course, picnic areas, three lakes, sport courts, and sculptures throughout. The park will be owned and operated by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
“For decades, Johnson County Park and Recreation District has sourced opportunities to add additional greenspace to the Northeast part of the county,” said Jill Geller, executive director of Johnson County Park & Recreation District. “We are so grateful to all of the parties involved in making this a reality and especially to members of the community for their thoughtful feedback every step of the way.”
Horizontal improvements will begin immediately, with construction on the multi-family homes starting in June 2016. It is anticipated that the Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club clubhouse will be removed and a new ADA-compliant activity center will take its place.
