Skate park renovation meeting to be September 19
Public encouraged to attend
A public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 19 at Meadowbrook Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., to gather ideas from the public regarding reconstruction of the skate park at Harmon Park.
Over the last several years, Public Works crews have been tracking the deterioration of concrete at the skate park. The concrete has significant hairline cracking throughout that City staff believes is due to Alkali-Silica-Reaction in the aggregate, which causes the concrete to fail sooner than normal. Over the next year, the park will be completely removed and reconstructed.
The City has hired Newline Skate Parks to design the new skate park. The committee developing the project includes City Council members, City Staff, as well as three members from the skate boarding community.
Preliminary design will take place this fall with final design following in the winter. Construction is expected to begin around the first of March 2020 with completion prior to Jazz Fest 2020. Staff anticipates there will be three public meetings during the preliminary design phase.
The purpose of the meeting September 19 is for the committee to learn from the skate boarding community what they want out of a new park. For more information, including the meeting agenda, visit www.pvkansas.com/pvskatepark.
