2020 Future of the Arts celebration to be January 10
The Prairie Village Arts Council will host its seventh annual “Future of the Arts” celebration, Friday, January 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the R.G. Endres Gallery at Prairie Village City Hall, 7700 Mission Rd. The awards ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m.
This month-long January exhibition celebrates our community’s future artists and features 2D and 3D visual art, performing artists, literature and musical performances by entrants ranging in age from 6 to 18 years old.
Arts Council Member and event founder Julie Flanagan spoke of the event’s growth over the past several years.
“This has easily become the premier youth arts exhibition in the area, bringing together artists of so many different ages and disciplines,” Flanagan said. “It is a real celebration of our kids and our community.”
Future of the Arts is a juried show. Awards will be made by grade level ranging from art scholarships to supplies or enhancements totaling $3,000 in value. Four $300 college scholarships will be awarded to winners in their senior year.
Arts Council Member Shelly Trewolla said she is eager to help with the event.
“As a career art teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District, I am thrilled to help host an event that allows our young artists to gain recognition outside of their schools and in the greater community,” Trewolla said. “Last year’s group was terrific, and I can’t wait to see what our students come up with this year.”
Last year’s winners and their fine art entries can be seen on the Art Council website.
