Debris Pickup Progress Map

8/7/2023 Update - With a few exceptions, debris pickup in areas 2 and 3 is complete. Pickup is nearing completion is area 1. An additional truck and crew were called in last week to assist in the cleanup efforts. Currently, two trucks are in area 4, one truck is in area 1, one truck is in area 5, and one truck is in area 6. Debris from cul-de-sacs and other hard-to-reach areas will be cleared at the end of the cleanup with smaller, more maneuverable equipment.

7/31/2023 Update - With a few exceptions, debris pickup in area 2 is complete. Crews have moved into the north portion of the city, beginning work in area 5. Trucks also continue to collect debris in areas 1, 3, and 4.

7/25/2023 Update -  Ashbritt crews began collection in areas 1-4 yesterday. Crews hauled 28 loads of vegetation to a tree recycling center. Crews anticipate continuing to work in these same areas for several days. Please ensure any piles you have ready for collection by Ashbritt are free of any other waste, including construction material and general trash. These piles should not be bundled and need to be free of rope and twine. Please remember one large pile is preferred over several smaller piles.

7/20/2023 Update - Crews will begin collection work Monday, July 24 in areas 1-4 on the map below. This will give areas in the north with the most damage more time to prepare for collection.

The City of Prairie Village is coordinating curbside limb pick up for residents to dispose of tree debris from the severe storm that took place on Friday, July 14, 2023.

Beginning immediately, bundles of smaller fallen limbs and bagged items will be collected as part of typical yard waste collection on residents’ scheduled trash day.

  • Limbs that are shorter than 4 feet and less than 3 inches in diameter can be bundled (under 50 pounds, less than 2 feet in diameter) and placed at the curb on your regular trash day for pick up by Republic, following normal yard waste procedures.

  • Using this as a first method of pick up will help speed-up collection for all residents.

  • However, if you also have larger debris, you can pile large and small limbs and branches together at the curb and wait for the large debris pickup provider, AshBritt, to be in your area.

Beginning Monday, July 24, AshBritt will be coordinating the collection of larger limbs that exceed the size specified above.

  • Trucks will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week to collect debris from homes on public streets.
  • Logs must be cut into sections not exceeding 10 feet in length. If you are unable to cut logs and trees, you may need to find a neighbor to assist or hire help as this is not a service provided by the City or AshBritt.
  • If you are piling debris for AshBritt collection, large piles are preferred over several smaller piles.
  • Limbs must be stacked in the front yard as close to the curb as possible, parallel to the street, and away from streetlights, utility boxes, fire hydrants, and clear of overhead power lines.
  • Storm debris should not be pushed into streets to not interfere with traffic.
  • Debris should not be placed on sidewalks whenever possible.
  • Storm debris piles for pickup must not be blocked by vehicles.
  • The contractor will be picking up vegetation only (i.e. trees or branches); any other items will not be collected.
  • Ashbrit will not collect bagged debris, but Republic will on your trash day.
  • Piles for pickup by Ashbritt should not be tied in bundles.

Storm debris should not be hauled to city parks.

If you choose to hire a contractor in lieu of using this service, please make sure that contractor is licensed and insured.

This post will be updated with additional debris pickup and route updates.  Following the completion of the first collection, the City will evaluate the need for a second/final limb collection.
