Apply for an amplified sound permit. Loud noise is prohibited before 7:00 a.m. and after 10:00 p.m. on weekdays (except Fridays, which will be until 12:00 a.m./midnight) and before 8:00 a.m. and after midnight on weekends (except on Sundays, which will be 10:00 p.m.) Even with a permit, amplified sound cannot be used during these times.

All cats and dogs, six months of age and older, must be licensed with the City. The licensing process ensures that animals have current rabies vaccinations which must be current in order to obtain an animal license. Each household is permitted to have a maximum of four pets with no more than three of one species (dog or cat). Licenses must be renewed every one, two or three years depending on the license purchased. Rabies vaccinations must be valid for the duration of the license being purchased. If an animal cannot tolerate the rabies vaccination, a letter stating the intolerance must be provided by the vet.

Community Development Department offers trio of grant opportunities
Exterior Grant
The 2026 Exterior Grant program is now accepting applications. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received until all grant funds are exhausted.
Eligible improvements include but are not limited to: complete exterior house painting or siding, door/window repair and replacement, new roof, gutters, shutters, front-facing concrete work (driveways, sidewalks & stoop), and foundation repairs. In order to qualify, the property must be owner-occupied.
Eligible homes can be located anywhere within City boundaries and must have a Johnson County appraised value of $450,000 or less for 2025. The City will provide a 25% match for exterior improvements with a minimum $2,000 investment by the property owner. Reimbursement amounts from the City will be a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $3,500.
Applications must include proof of current homeowner’s insurance.
Sustainability Grant
The 2026 Sustainability Grant program is also accepting applications. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received until all grant funds are exhausted.
Energy-saving improvements must meet the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code. Eligible improvements include, but are not limited, to the following: home energy audit by a certified auditor, solar power, wind power, energy-efficient HVAC or water heater, energy-efficient windows or doors, insulation, geothermal heating and cooling, and duct sealing.
The City will provide a 25% match for energy efficiency improvements for one- and two-family dwellings with a minimum $2,000 investment by the property owner. Reimbursement amounts from the City will be a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $3,500. Insulation-only projects require a $1,000 minimum investment and will match 50% of project costs.
Applications must include bids for the improvements, including project specification sheets, and proof of current homeowner’s insurance.
Exterior Grant for Trash Container Screening
The 2026 Exterior Grant Trash Container Screening program accepts applications year round. Trash containers must be stored behind the front building line and screened from street view. The City will reimburse trash container screening projects at 50% of the construction costs up to $100 maximum reimbursement.
Eligible homes can be located anywhere within City boundaries and must have a Johnson County appraised value of $450,000 or less for 2025.
Applications must include a description of the screening and estimated costs.
