Prairie Village launches Transportation Safety Action Plan

Post Date:04/22/2026 8:35 AM

The City of Prairie Village has launched the development of a Transportation Safety Action Plan, a comprehensive effort to improve safety for all users of the City’s streets.

In December 2023, Representative Sharice Davids announced $1.75 million to improve roads and address traffic fatalities in Kansas’s 3rd Congressional District, $80,000 of which was designated for Prairie Village’s Transportation Safety Action Plan. The plan is funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program and will identify safety concerns, analyze crash data, and recommend strategies and projects to reduce traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.

The Transportation Safety Action Plan will take a data-driven and community-informed approach to improving safety across Prairie Village. The plan will:

  • Analyze crash trends and identify high-crash locations
  • Evaluate factors contributing to crashes, such as speeding or impaired driving
  • Incorporate community and stakeholder input
  • Recommend policies, programs, and infrastructure improvements
  • Identify priority projects and funding opportunities

Community engagement will play a key role in shaping the plan. Residents and stakeholders will have opportunities to provide input through an online survey, interactive map, and other engagement activities.

The Transportation Safety Action Plan is expected to be completed in September 2026 and will help guide future safety investments and support applications for additional state and federal funding.
