We have transitioned to an online, cloud-based licensing system called OpenGov. All Massage Therapist, Home Based Massage Therapist must apply and pay for a Massage Therapist license here.

A few things to note:

• You must first create an account with OpenGov, you will then receive an email confirmation
• You can click on that link that will take you to the OpenGov site.  Go to City Clerk's tab, explore and go to Massage Therapist license or Massage Business license.  Apply and upload all your documents.
• Staff will then review your application to verify it has been completed, and you will receive an additional email requesting payment. This will be done through the OpenGov system.
• Applications are considered incomplete until payment is made. Applications and payment must be completed before your license expiration date.

Below is information about the requirements of the City's Massage Therapy Business licensing program:

• License fee is $40 for Massage Therapist, $55 for a Home Based Massage Therapist business.
• Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
• New applicant must provide proof of graduation of a massage therapy program by certified transcript of 500 hours in theory, method or practice of massage OR Proof of certification by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
• Applicant must provide valid certification in American Red Cross First Aid.
• Applicant must provide valid certification in American Heart Association CPR.
• Applicant must provided a valid picture ID, such as a Driver's License.
• Renewal applicants must complete 12 hours of continuing education each year.
• You must apply and be issued a massage therapist license prior to practicing massage therapy in Prairie Village.
• If conducting business from a commercial-zoned property, a Massage Therapy Business License must be applied for  online www.pvkansas.com/opengov  approved and issued by the City prior to the operation of the massage therapy business. The applicant will pay the fee for the Business license (fee schedule) but not the Massage Therapist license. The Building Inspector will inspect all new Massage Therapy businesses before a license will be issued.
• If conducting a home-based business, a Massage Therapy Business License must be applied for online www.pvkansas.com/opengov, approved and issued by the City prior to the operation of the Massage Therapy business. The applicant will pay the fee for the Business license ($55) but not the Massage Therapist license.
• All licenses must be renewed annually.
