Prairie Village Tree Board Events 

Meetings: The Tree Board meets the first Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. For more information check out the City's calendar or contact Suzanne Lownes at (913)385-4640.

Arbor Day Event
The Prairie Village Tree Board holds an annual Arbor Day event, planting a tree in recognition of Arbor Day.  Nominations may be made to designate an Arbor Day Honoree.

Arbor Day Honorees  an opportunity for the community to recognize the efforts and contributions of outstanding individuals who have made a difference in Prairie Village. Their efforts should have had a positive and lasting impact on the community; they may be living or deceased individuals or couples and may have served the community in any capacity. Nominations are accepted until the last day in February. Nomination form is available for download.

Fall Seminar - October
The Prairie Village Tree Board hosts an Annual Fall Seminar the first Wednesday in October in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 7700 Mission Rd.

Prairie Village Arboretum 

The Prairie Village Tree Board is establishing an Arboretum that consists of numerous tree species throughout the Prairie Village Park System.  The mission is to enhance citizen participation in continued development of the parks, establish a friendship and memory gift vehicle for pledges, establish an award to be made each year on Arbor Day, create a wildlife habitat, and to establish a wedding arbor in Porter Park. Those who are interested can make gifts to the Friends of the Prairie Village Arboretum fund set up through the Municipal Foundation.  To donate or get more information go to

Tree Planting Information 

The Prairie Village Tree Board has list of approved trees that can be planted in the City right-of-way.  Please check out the list of Approved Trees [PDF]. Another good resource for tree information is the National Arbor Day Foundation website.
