The Prairie Village Police Department is promoting an FBI-developed application called FBI Child ID – a convenient tool that quickly assists the police in locating a missing child.
Child ID allows parents to electronically store photos and other vital information about their children, such as height, weight, hair color, eye color, etc., that they can immediately access and share with police should their child become missing. This tool permits parents to quickly email pertinent information to PVPD, activating an immediate search. The app is free and available on iPhones and Androids. Those interested can also access the app using the following link: https://www.fbi.gov/news/apps/child-id-app.
The FBI nor the Prairie Village police collects or stores any photos or information entered in the app. All data resides solely on the user’s mobile device until they send it to authorities.
Prairie Village and Mission Hills residents should use ChildID@pvkansas.com when completing their child’s profile in the application but should not use the SEND notification tab until needed.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DOES THE APP WORK?
Simply download the application from your mobile App Store, add the latest photos of your child, enter key information about him or her, and update it regularly. DOES MY INFORMATION STAY SECURE?
Be assured, no information about you or your child will be collected or stored by law enforcement. The information you add remains on your phone until you send it to authorities.
DO I SEND THE INFORMATION ABOUT MY CHILD TO PRAIRIE VILLAGE POLICE?
In the unlikely event that your child goes missing, send the information about your child at that time. DO NOT SEND THE INFORMATION TO THE POLICE IF YOUR CHILD HAS NOT GONE MISSING. Sending the information before it is needed will activate a missing person search by law enforcement.
