Effective February 19, 2016, all 911 centers in our region will be functional to receive text to 911. According to the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), smaller providers already piggyback on the four major carriers, but there is no guarantee smaller cell phone providers are making services available.
The preferred way to call 911 is always by voice . . . “Call if You Can, Text if You Can’t.”
Text to 911 is another tool to assist the public in reaching emergency services. For more information, please download MARC's brochure entitled, "Kansas City Regional 9-1-1 System: Important Tips for Sending Texts to 9-1-1."
