Transportation Safety Action Plan Overview

The City of Prairie Village is developing a citywide Transportation Safety Action Plan to improve safety for everyone who uses our streets –  whether walking, biking, driving, or rolling.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program, this plan will help the City identify safety concerns, prioritize improvements, and guide future investments to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

What will the plan include?

  • Analysis of crash data to identify locations with higher concentrations of crashes and understand contributing factors, such as speeding or impaired driving.
  • Policy recommendations related to school zone operations, crosswalk and bike route enhancements, and speed management.
  • A list of safety strategies and projects, ranging from low-cost improvements to larger capital projects.
  • Prioritized actions to help the City implement safety improvements over time.

A draft Safety Action Plan is anticipated in September 2026.
